Detalles # 9: Malacca Shophouses

9:16 AM

Location: Malacca, Malaysia

Along the historical Chinatown Street of Malacca, Jonker Walk, lies one of the beautiful reminders of Malaysia’s past; the Shophouse. Shophouses are usually two to three stories high, with the lower floor being utilized as a shop and the upper floors as a residential space.
During recent times, some shophouses still utilizes this kind of design. But most of them now uses the upper floor as an office and the lower floors still for their businesses (cafés, souvenir shops, food stalls, restaurants, vintage shops and more)

Shophouses, particularly in Malacca caught my attention for their intricate façade paintings and carvings; each has a story of its own. What makes it more interesting is that, no two shophouses are alike. Now, that's actual dedication for a better design!

You know what makes it these little houses interesting? The fact that most of them houses Malacca's famed Antique Shops! Seriously, checking some of these shops is a must when in this historic city. Who knows, you might just snag yourself the best souvenir in all of Malaysia *wink*

So tell me, have you ever noticed something interesting in your travels lately? Tell me all about it!
