Jill's Travel Guide: Dinkelsbühl

10:46 AM

Location: Dinkelsbühl, Bavaria, Germany

Next stop on the Romantische Straße route is the historic town of Dinkelsbühl. Why historic, you may ask? Well, this town is a former free imperial city of the Holy Roman Empire. Now its known for its very well-preserved medieval german architecture.

If you happen to stop by here, you'll notice that it has a lot similar to Rothenburg ob der Tauber but one thing that sets this place apart from the other is that it's not that infested by tourists making the place even more pleasant for a quiet walk. So, what's in store for us here?

Access

Pretty much same as in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the best way to reach this town is by private car; on the Romantische Straße route. With extreme privacy, you can enjoy the scenery with a good laugh with your travel-buddy. Recently, It has also came to my attention that cyclists tend to cycle the route and use the towns as their stopover, how amazing is that?

Never Miss

Step into St.George Church and see the beautiful gothic architecture. The church is towering over the town so there's no way you can't visit this architecture marvel.

A stroll-along the Dinkelsbühl Wall from the outside and see the beautiful moat turned swan lake.

Discover local restaurants and artisans along the Weinmarkt (Which is a really pretty excuse to see its colorful shophouses.)

Never leave without trying one local restaurant. If you're looking for a traditional but unique German cuisine, this is the place to be. One place I would recommend would be the restaurant at the Hotel Deutsches Haus. Good food plus amazing medieval interiors, what more could we ask for?

But really, just a walk around the city will give you lots of inspiration. I mean look at all those colored houses! It's definitely a must see.

Best time to visit

If you're visiting the place to enjoy the culture and the place, late summer to early fall would be better but if you're thinking of visiting the famous Dinkelsbühl Christkindlesmarkt, December would be the best time for you.
