Impressions of Vienna: Stephansplatz

10:11 AM

Location: Vienna, Austria

Staying at the Hotel Sacher Wien, there's no doubt the first place that would make an impression to you is the Stephansplatz- Vienna's geographical center and the starting point for most streets at the Austrian capital.

What makes this square really interesting is that it gives you a glimpse of what this city has to offer; a perfect mix of the intricately designed buildings of old Vienna and the sleek and sexy curves of the newer structures. There's really something about this subtle mix that gives a city that certain uniqueness that I try to find whenever I'm escaping to another city or country.

A few weeks back, I stayed at The Majestic in Kuala Lumpur and staying at this part of Vienna (particularly at the Hotel Sacher) reminded me so much of my love for this "mix" but seriously, what's there to do in Stephensplatz?

Well, aside from stressing your hands from holding all the shopping bags, a little detour will lead you to one of the most amazing Gothic cathedrals ever, The Stephansdom. A short walk around Austria's seat of the Archbishop of Vienna will make you appreciate the details around the structure and it proves the saying that "details are everything". If you walk a little bit farther, you'll reach the Schloß Hofburg, the Habsburg Monarch's winter palace. But seriously, Vienna's one of those cities you want to get lost in. Believe me, try to get lost in Vienna and you'll be surprised where these cobblestone streets will lead you.

It's just me but I love getting lost in a city and discovering these hidden treasures, what about you? Do you think it's a good idea to get lost in an unfamiliar city?
