Passport Out's Guide To: Innsbruck

9:02 AM

Location: Innsbruck, Austria
I recently asked my partner in crime, Jillian to give us the "What to do's" when in the beautiful Austrian city of Innsbruck. She recently lived there for 6 months so I'm pretty sure she knows where the best things are!

Access
Flights from other parts of Europe land in the Innsbruck Airport (Kranebitten) about 2.5 miles from the city centre. Flights from other parts of the globe land in the nearby cities of Munich, Vienna and Frankfurt. From there, you can take the train to the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof. For more information about the train schedules click here.

Best place to stay?
Definitely the Grand Hotel Europa. Due to its proximity to the Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof (Innsbruck Central Station) and not to mention the extensive facelifts done to the hotel making it the chicest hotel in town. And of course the extremely friendly staff will make your stay even better and don't make me start talking about the Etro toiletries. This hotel is definitely top-notch!

Best place for a coffee?
Café Sacher for the best Sacher Torte, succulent high-tea choices and for its old town charm. If you want to do what the locals do, this is the place to be! Cafe Katzung has some really good orange infused coffee, be sure to try that out.

You can never leave Innsbruck without trying...?
Neighborhood bakery, Der Bäcker Ruetz and their great selection of great tasting sandwiches. Munding Café's Apfelstrudel is definitely a must try. I mean, how can you resist a fresh apple pastry? Never leave Innsbruck without trying their cafés!

How can you leave the Austrian Alps without seeing its glory? Head over to the top of the Seegrube Mountain and see Innsbruck and the beautiful Tux Alps as its backdrop. It can be accessed through the Zaha Hadid-designed Nordkettebahn (with its futuristic design how can it not be an attraction on its own?)

Best time to visit Innsbruck?
Innsbruck is a skier's paradise so if you're here for the slopes, visit the place on a winter but if you're here to discover the place and feel the culture, go on a summer when it's not too hot and not too cold; just the right temperature for you to seize the day.
