The Majestic Malacca: Old-World Oriental Glamour
8:20 AM
Stepping inside the lobby,
at the authentic Peranakan Mansion transports you back into 1920s Malacca: from
the original intricate porcelain floorings, fine carpets, teakwood furnishings
and to that particular Baba (Male) color of bright tourmaline, each aspect of
the property screamed old-world Chinese glamour.
Check-in was okay,
everything was done at the beautifully designed lobby but what stuck to me the
most were the room introductions. While getting us familiarized with our room,
the hotel staff gave us a traditional Nyonya (Straits born Chinese woman)
welcome drink; very fragrant black tea infused with lychee on a traditional,
intricately designed China.
The rooms resemble a mix of
colonial British-Malay interiors; a four-poster bed, teakwood flooring,
art-deco bathroom tiles, claw-foot bathtubs, intricately carved wooden trays
and tables and fine carpets in the generously sized living room. I personally
adore the color story at the Majestic Malacca rooms; earth tones adorn the
rooms with a hint of yellow and bronze standing out.
If you ask me what my
favorite part of the room is, it would probably be the day bed by the huge
windows that gives you a 360-degree view of the riverbanks that used to be
where Chinese junks and spice-laden vessels pass-through.
I’m not really a breakfast
person but I enjoyed my breakfast at “The Mansion”. The place feels very home-y
in a way and I love how they cook your breakfast just the way you want them to.
Their breakfast Eggs Benedict tastes heavenly and with the bread tray, it’s
even more better. The place though is a bit tight and if you’re with someone,
it lacks that feel of privacy so make sure you go there a bit early since I had
mine late.
The Majestic Malacca staff
was really friendly and they helped us with a few requests during our 3-day
stay. When we arrived, they immediately gave us maps that would help us explore
the city center better and we didn’t even have to ask for it. One of our
key-cards weren’t working properly and I had to notify the lobby people about
it and it was very nice of them to make sure everything’s working properly when
they escorted me back to my room.
Since we’re flying out from
KLIA 1 that morning, we had to checkout earlier than scheduled. I’ll give them
a hands-up with the checkout procedures since we were in the private car to the
airport in no time. It was pretty fast despite a lot of people checking in that
time.
I can say that everything
was pretty okay. It was okay but not stellar which is what we're looking for an escape-worthy place. But It would definitely be an honor to visit the property again in a few
months time to see the difference. It delights me to see improvements, after
all. I’ll see you again soon, Majestic Malacca!
