Resort Spotlight: 137 Pillars House
9:48 AM
Location:
Chiang Mai, Thailand
At the
heart of the historic city of Chiang Mai, lies arguably one of Northern
Thailand’s most unique boutique resorts. A subtle mix of the old and the new
has been proven to be the best ingredient for this amazing 30-room property.
Originally
built in the late 18th century, the original teakwood structure used
to be the East Borneo Company’s headquarters till the end of World War II. Fast
forward to the 10th of March 2012, the resort finally opened its
doors to the general public with suites named after the prominent names that
made the construction of “Baan Dam” possible.
Access
From the
airport, your personal butler can book a luxury limousine from THB950 that can
take you straight into the property. With Thailand’s humid weather, this is
definitely a service worth availing even though taxis can also be hired from
the airport.
Rooms
137
Pillars House offers 4 different kinds of rooms; The Rajah Brooke Suite, East
Borneo Suite, William Bain Terrace Suite and the amazing Louis Leonowens Pool
Suite.
For an
even better escape-worthy experience, why not try the Louis Leonowens Suite? Who doesn’t want to take a dip into a plunge
pool after exploring the city? But if you thought that was it, well think
again, buddy. The outdoor shower might entice you too.
But if
you’d rather stay in than explore the city, well I’m sure bringing your trusty
read in the balcony sounds pretty good too. After all, reading while lounging
at the oversized day bed sounds pretty decent too.
Where to chow
But if
you’re classified into the foodie line, there are few restaurants inside the
vicinity that will satisfy your Thai food craving. I suggest stopping by The Parlor Lounge at noon for that well
deserved high tea that will delight not just your sense of taste but also your
sense of sight with its lovely Thai-British décor. After dinner at the
fine-dining Palette Restaurant, make
sure to head over to the Jack Bain’s Bar
where you can enjoy a glass of Daiquiri while listening to some old-school jazz
music.
Overall
Judging
by its overall design and services, it’s without a doubt an escape-worthy
property. The funny thing is that you don’t have to go out of your way to find
a place like this since 137 Pillars House is just a few minutes away from the city
center. Now, I just have to book a flight to Chiang Mai soon!
