Jill's Travel Guide: Frankfurt

Location: Frankfurt, Germany
Frankfurt Airport (Flughafen Frankfurt am Main) is Frankfurt's major International Airport. Being Germany's busiest airport, you can imagine how many flights from different parts of the world fly in and out of this airport everyday. This is also the german-flag carrier, Lufthansa's hub so if you're thinking what I'm thinking, yes, Lufthansa is really the way to fly to Frankfurt.
If you're coming from within Europe, another choice would be arriving at Germany's busiest train station, the Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof. For more information about schedules and connections from different parts of Europe, click here.
Best place to stay?
I adore the Steigenberger Frankfurter Hof for its old-world charm and with their newly refurbished rooms, this hotel is still the grand dame of this modern city. Another thing that is very noticeable for Steigenberger is definitely its façade; the intricate carvings and the stone columns is beyond amazing. I adore places that instantly transport you to a different era and this is one of those.
Another great option when in Frankfurt would be the very modern Jumeirah in the Innenstadt. Every room has a great panoramic view of the city and this just adds up to its contemporary charm. Let's talk about in-room amenities, if you're a fan of huge windows, a minimalist design, and L'Occitane products then you'll very much adore this hotel (just like me)!
Best place to eat?
With its very homey interiors, A mix of furnished seats and wooden tables, Margarete is definitely the place to just eat and enjoy your company. I like how the modern interiors becomes a contrast to their very German menu. The best time to go there would be for brunch for they serve some really brunch worthy food on their menu. A must try!
I also enjoy the very calm feel of Walden. The place is a mixture of a breakfast place, a restaurant and even a bar! Its an interesting place to visit on any time of the day. You enjoy your breakfast and watch how the people live in the morning, hangout with a few people in the afternoon and enjoy a drink in the evening. Its a real 3-in-1!
Best place to shop?
Münchener Straße has shops that offers merchandise from different parts of the world while Berger Straße has some really interesting small shops that aren't mainstream with the tourists. But high-end shopping never hurt anybody so a trip to Goethestraße would also be nice.
Best place to see the old Frankfurt?
Definitely the Alstadt where the Römerplatz, Frankfurt Cathedral, Paulsplatz and Rathaus is located. Its very interesting how a place like this exists in such a modern city; its like existing in two different eras! and not to mention, these sights offer such delectable restaurants around it so be sure too try it out.
Best place to see the modern Frankfurt?
If you adore modern architecture like me, a walk to the Deutschherrnbrücke is a must. It offers gorgeous views of the Frankfurt Skyline. But seriously, take a long walk around the city, afterall Frankfurt has a lot to offer than just modern architecture.
